From the ashes of a devastated vinyl industry 10 years ago Paranoid London Records & Paranoid London the band emerged & immediately began bucking the trend in falling vinyl sales. With zero promotion, no interviews, no photos & no downloads their line in stripped down, dirty, sleazy tracks made directly for dancers & DJs caught the imagination of a scene bored shitless of the way things were.
The records started to become instant modern classics, going for silly money on sites like discogs. They would sell out before they even hit the shops leading to frenzied pre-orders & people squabbling over the few copies that made it on to the racks.
When they began to do live shows people began to get their first glimpses of the, until then, anonymous band. The atmosphere at those gigs was electric, the crowds surging forward with excitement as the show would start. The live show, like the records, was different to everything else on offer at the time. Combining a rare talent for dancefloor dynamics made with original analogue equipment spitting out often brutal shards of electronic funk with the Alan Vega/preacher -esque vocal rants of Mutado Pintado. Very quickly rising to the top of the disco chain they headlined everywhere from Panorama Bar, Block9 at Glastonbury, Sonar, Dekmantel as well as supporting bands like Fat White Family, The Chemical Brothers & Soulwax.
The first album outsold just about every other electronic album on vinyl that year, again with zero promotion.
Here is the second album 'PL'.
ALBUM GUESTS
Mutado Pintado
Lead singer of Warmduscher Mutado Pintado has been with PL from the start, providing vocals on the classics Eating Glue, Transmission 5 & Light Tunnel. Hailed as one of the best frontmen of his generation he is a unique performer in any genre of music he turns his hand to. He also eats children.
Josh Caffe
Darling of the queer scene, fashion icon & general sleaze-bag Josh Caffe has recorded 2 songs on the new PL album & will be joining them for as many of the live shows as poss. Coming off like a British Jamie Principle/Robert Owens but waaaaay sleazier he is set for huge things (oo-er!).
Bubbles Bubblesynski
Activist, vocalist, artist & all round inspiration Bubbles was tragically murdered in San Fransisco just before he had the chance to record vocals for the band. They made his track using footage from his Facebook posts & named it after Larry Gonello Jnr’s club The Boombox Affair. All profits from his track go to 2 charities based in San Fransisco providing help for trans people & sex workers.
Alan Vega
Lead singer of Suicide Alan Vega hardly needs an introduction. One of the most iconic performers ever his work with Martin Rev as Suicide & on his own has inspired an entire generation. Quite simply; The Man.
Arthur Baker
The man that made Planet Rock. Do we really need to say any more than that?
Simon Topping
Lead singer from A Certain Ratio, the band that were signed to the legendary Factory Records from Manchester. Topping has a distinct way with words & a delivery so deadpan it’s almost catatonic. HIs style perfectly suits the repetitive machine loops that PL provide for him.
