Paranoid London return with the dank and illicit new classic ‘(Vi-Vi) Vicious Games’, which features the voice of fashion icon and queer scene darling Josh Caffe.
On the album edit Caffe’s sleazy, bruised but big-hearted vocal transposes the impassioned delivery of Jamie Principle and Robert Owens from ‘80s Chicago to the cold tough streets of modern London.
Despite the dub channelling the energy and spirit of Bam Bam and Sleezy D, sonically the corrosive, hissing and angular beat is unmistakably now. It’s uncompromising, primal and so stripped of fat it’s positively skeletal.
‘(Vi-Vi) Vicious Games’ follows a string of highly sought-after vinyl-only releases, which featured guest vocalists including house heroes K Alexi and Paris Brightledge – the latter of whom contributed a cover of The Fall’s ‘Immortality’.
Despite minimal promotion, PL’s raw ‘n’ rugged no-nonsense-bangers resulted in enthusiastic coverage from the likes of Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and i-D, plus headline bookings at Panorama Bar, Sonar, Dekmantel, and Block9 at Glastonbury.
